My Story:I had my first extraction at 3 years old, and from that moment on, spent many, many hours in the dentist chair.I was no stranger to abscesses, root canal, bridges, caps, dentures – you name it, I had it.Yet despite the amount of time over the years that was spent on my teeth, I ended up with a mish mash of terrible teeth and gaps, and wearing a partial denture which was being added to as my teeth just seemed to disintegrate.I have spent my life laughing with my hand over my mouth, and never showing my teeth when I smiled for photographs.I decided that when I retired (which I could do at 50), I was going to invest some of my pension money into getting the smile and teeth that I had always longed for. Now, I knew this would be a very expensive project. My first objective, the most important one I think, was to find the right dentist and practice.I did extensive research on the internet and had six appointments at various dental establishments in London.Mr. Cohen was, purely accidentally, my sixth appointment. The previous five practices were very ‘hi-tech’, all white furniture, mirrors and in some cases, a glass of champagne! They were all pretty much the same – but I did not feel particularly at ease or that this was where I was going to invest a huge amount of money and time. Then, I went to Dentexcel and met Mr. Cohen.I should say that prior to our first meeting, he responded to my initial phone call to the practice with a personal call to my home.He spent at least 30 minutes on the phone to me, and for the first time I felt I had met someone who cared about what I actually wanted, and indeed, needed.I was able to tell him about my fears, embarrassment, and financial position and so on – and he listened. So, by our first meeting, we had already spoken. The Harley Street practice is different from those I had seen – it was all about the teeth rather than the ‘bells and whistles’ of the others – mind you, it has been decorated during my year of visits and looks very smart – but still, I am glad to say, unpretentious. So, on that first meeting, we had a long talk.Mr Cohen looked at my teeth, took photographs, asked questions and so on.By the time I left, I knew I had found the right man and the right practice to put my trust in.Not only that but his support staff are so friendly and caring.Olga, Mr. Cohen’s nurse, always went the extra mile to ensure I was as comfortable as possible, which included telephoning me after some surgeries to make sure I was alright. In fact, it was something Olga said to me that made me know I had made the right choice of dentist. She said “Mr. Cohen is the best you will find.Mr. Cohen accommodated everything that I asked for, and this made the treatment much easier for me.I had a complete mouth re-construction, which involved so many complex and different procedures- some quite extraordinary.Mr. Cohen is best described as 3P’s which are: Patient, Painstaking, and Perfectionist!I had no real guarantees I would be totally happy with the end result – it was work in progress and this was where the faith bit came in.On the 15th February this year, I left the surgery with my new smile. There are no words to describe how thrilled and delighted I am with the results. The staff that were there all came and had a look- it had been a long journey! The staff had become involved in this long process and I felt they were all genuine in their delight at the end result. In fact I recall that I had a mouth surgery on my wedding anniversary, involving sedation, so my husband came with me to drive me home. When I came to my senses later at home, I found an anniversary card from Mr. Cohen, Olga and the staff at Dentexcel.Anyhow, on that fantastic ‘finishing day’, I left the surgery and have to admit I did cry outside- because I finally had a beautiful smile. It looks entirely natural and the shape and colour are beyond my expectations. All my friends and family went through the process with me in spirit- and all have said how fantastic they look.Even black cab drivers who took me to Victoria station after my mammoth sessions (it was my treat to myself!) were regaled about my treatment and I often wrote down the number of Dentexcel for them as I knew my recommendation could be done in total sincerity.I can’t thank Mr. Cohen and his staff enough for giving me this smile.I know that I could not have got a better job anywhere.Mr. Cohen is a true master at his trade and for that I am so, so grateful.Having a great smile is so much better than any other facial cosmetic surgery. It has made me look younger and happier, and this is better than any facelift or Botox! The best thing I ever did was to find Dentexcel in my research, and ultimately Mr. Cohen.I have no hesitation in recommending this practice to anyone wanting the best result possible for themselves, because that is what I wanted, and that is what I now have – a fabulous smile!JC
